I saw this quote on a meme and it's so true! I loved chicken and pizza so much I thought I could never go vegan. Coming from a Latino family in New York that loves to eat meat, my plant-forward journey was not easy. My grandpa still offers me meat every time he sees me. 🤣

Once I educated myself with what goes on in the animal agriculture industry, I could not support it. So when I first chose this lifestyle, I did it for ethical reasons. Then I started noticing all the health benefits and I knew my body was telling me something. My acne cleared up, my congestion went away, and my digestive issues were significantly reduced. Making the transition seemed challenging at first, but now of course I wish I did it sooner!

My passion for animal welfare has been a driving force throughout my entire life. I've contributed to and raised money for various sanctuaries, but always wanted to do more. My plant-forward journey began in 2012 when I was living in India, then after 8 years as a vegetarian I finally went 100% plant-based. I did not have the resources or community to help make my transition process easier, and this was my inspiration for Veginner Cooking. In 2020, I started my blog knowing this was how I could make the biggest possible impact, for both animals and veginners (vegan beginners).

Every day I inspire more people to transform their lives, guiding them on their personal wellness journey. This is my mission... to inspire health and compassion around the world. I humbly invite you to join my community as a Veginner or Mentor so we can save even more animals together. ♥

Hey Veginners, I'm Goran Mrvic from Serbia. If you had told my younger self that one day I'd be advocating for a vegan lifestyle, I would've probably laughed it off. But here I am, a passionate believer, and this is my story.

I remember that ordinary day in 2013 when everything changed. Heading back home, my attention was caught by someone handing out pamphlets in the NYC subway station. Out of sheer curiosity, I took one. There was this story about "Stacey the Pig" and "Jerry the Duck", with animals named as if they were humans. It was such a simple yet powerful message. Suddenly, I began questioning why we treat some animals as pets and others as mere food.

Now, rewind a bit. My lovely friend Stella was already opening my eyes to the wonders of vegan cuisine. Every time she'd serve up a vegan treat, I'd be shocked by its taste. "Seriously Stella, this is vegan?" became our little inside joke. Oh, and if you know me, you know about my weird obsession for mayo. 🤣 So when Stella introduced me to vegan mayo and I couldn't tell the difference (actually, it tasted better!), I was blown away.

But that pamphlet? It was the universe telling me to dive deeper. Eager to learn more, I found "Earthlings", a documentary that changed everything. Though it's not for the faint-hearted, it unveiled a world of cruelty I couldn’t ignore. That was the moment I fully embraced veganism. Has anyone else seen earthlings? Here's a fun twist: Remember how Stella introduced me to vegan food? A similar cycle started with my dear friend Cheryl. Sharing my journey with her, seeing her genuine interest, and supporting her own transition to a plant-based diet, has been incredible. And I never could have imaged how far her journey would take her. When she started her blog, Veginner Cooking, I was so excited because that I meant I would get to eat lots of yummy vegan food! I am so proud and grateful to be part of this thriving community where we share recipes, stories, and inspiration.

Looking back, it’s been an incredible journey. From a pamphlet in a NYC subway station to now helping film Cheryl’s vegan delicious dishes, every experience has enriched my life. I'm sharing this not just as my story, but as an invitation. If I can change, anyone can. And trust me, it’s not just about the food. It's about compassion, understanding, and growth. Let's embark on this journey together, sharing, supporting, and inspiring one another. Just consider the ripple effect: Stella's story sparked my transformation, and in turn, my journey influenced Cheryl's. From battling malabsorption at birth to navigating juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disorders, depression, and a myriad of other health issues, my journey has been a testament to resilience. Countless doctor visits, surgeries, and medications marked my days until I decided I needed a different path.

In my pursuit of relief, I explored holistic remedies with intermittent success. However, it wasn't until the lockdown of 2020 that my partner and I decided to fully embrace a vegan lifestyle. Even with occasional indulgences from nearby vegan restaurants, I noticed a positive shift in my symptoms. Transitioning to a whole-food, plant-based diet allowed me to liberate myself from medications and forge a deeper connection with animals.

Residing in Los Angeles, I am fortunate to have access to a variety of plant-based restaurants. Yet, a word of caution—many places offer heavily processed vegan alternatives that don't contribute to healing. I've become an advocate for crafting my own meals, ensuring a nutrient-rich, inflammation-fighting approach to support disease reversal.

Your journey toward a plant-based lifestyle is unique, and I'm here to provide guidance and support to help you break free from chronic illness. Together, let's embrace a holistic approach to well-being, for ourselves, the planet, and the voiceless creatures we share it with.

As a child, I had a special affinity towards animals. This affinity has stayed with me all my life. As a kid I ate what my family provided, not thinking much of it until I turned 13 years old. It was 1976, and I accidentally came across a documentary on TV called "Meat" directed by Frederick Wiseman. I was so appalled at seeing this film, I broke into hysterical crying. It was then that I had the strong conviction that I would NEVER eat meat again. And so it was.

I never truly considered the harm in dairy until about 20 years later when I was visiting a C.S.A (Community Supported Agriculture) farm and ran across someone who informed me about the dairy industry and that by consuming dairy, I was supporting the meat industry. How? All of the offspring of dairy cows either end up as dairy cows or veal (if they are male).

And, the mother is continually impregnated to keep supplying milk over her short lifespan. Her young are taken away from her shortly after birth, to save her milk for humans.

So, now I've been plant-based/non-dairy for about 27 years. I recently started a YouTube channel that in part, supports and educates on the ideas of plant-based living, both for the environment and for compassion toward animals.
